Crochet Hat Instructions
Crocheting hats is a great way to utilize crocheting skill while making
a great, functional item of clothing. Simple crochet hat instructions
are easy to follow, but more advanced patterns will provide a challenge
even for experienced crocheters.
For most crocheters, starting with the beanie or ski cap is a good choice.
There can be great variation among this type of crochet hat
instructions, so you'll be able to make unique hats for everyone. Some
crochet hats have a delicate, lacy look to them, and would be
appropriate for girls or women. Other designs employ ribbing or include
designs such as flames. Often guys who would never wear anything
crocheted will wear a ski cap, especially if it is relatively plain and
doesn't look feminine.
To make a crochet hat, you will have to be able to crochet in the round.
Using a small hook will ensure a tight weave and a warm hat. Start with
one skein of yarn -- about four ounces is usually enough for a decent
hat. Crochet in the round until the circle is as large as the top of
the head of whoever will be wearing the hat. Begin to stop increasing
the stitches. You want the circle to begin to turn in on itself. The
circle should begin to go from disc shaped to bowl shaped. Depending on
the style you're going for, you can make the hat long enough to be worn
with a significant portion rolled up, or simply finish it around the
middle of the ear.
