Dollhouses can not only be a treasure for a little girl, but they can also be a way to show off your miniature collectibles. While most people think dollhouses are hard to make, they really are fairly easy to construct.
One of the first things that you have to understand before you undertake your project is what scale you are going to use. Most scales are 1/12, which means that 1" in the dollhouse is the same as one foot in real life. However, if the miniatures you are putting in your dollhouse are larger, then this scale will not work for you.
Another thing you have to know before starting your dollhouse is what kind of house you want to build. If you are a new builder, you may want to start small and try building a cabin. If you have carpentry skills, you may want to try something more elaborate, such as a Victorian mansion.
Once you have decided upon your scale and what type of dollhouse you are going to build, then you can draw your pattern. From there, you can buy your wood. Which type you use will depend upon your preferences. When cutting out your dollhouse, remember to mark places where your doors and windows are going to be. There will also be little things that you will need to do, such as sanding the rough edges and where you have put your nails. Once all of this is done, you can choose to paint it or leave it unpainted. When all of this is done, it is time to put your miniatures in their places.
