Frames or hooks are used for holding the pieces off the lap of the quilter. Machine stitching is widely practiced, but the layers still need to be basted together for stability before placing the quilt on the machine.
Designing your own quilt can be fun and rewarding. There are many patterns to choose from like patchwork, cathedral, Amish pattern, and wedding ring. Crafting a quilt is a time consuming hobby, but not that difficult. It is definitely a hands on experience, and the end result is a beautiful work of art that can be handed down in your family.
