Quilting has long been a beautiful and cherished form of art and the handmade Native American quilt is still highly prized and esteemed.
On Todays Quilters web site we learn that quilting did not originate with the Native Americans as many people believed but was introduced in the 17th century by missionaries who came over and brought the art with them. Native American quilts became valuable trade goods and were made and given for special occasions or celebrations between tribes.
Perhaps what makes Native American quilts so much in demand is the different designs and tribal culture instilled in their quilt making.
