Basket weaving is is one of the oldest crafts and according to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, the oldest known baskets are between 10,000 and 12,000 years old, earlier than any finds of pottery, and were discovered in Faiyum in upper Egypt. Other baskets were discovered in the Middle East and are up to 7,000 years old.
Very few tools are need to do basket weaving and what tools are used are very inexpensive. In fact most of them are things you have in your house already. A pencil. a tape measure or ruler, round nose pliers, scissors, and an awl. The scissors need to be strong enough to cut you rose bushes and the awl is used to for making space.
To make a basket, start with choosing the right materials for the kind of basket you want to make. The stakes should be the same thickness and strength. How close you make your stakes will determine the thickness of your weaving material. The closer your stakes, the thinner your weaving material can be. Be sure to evenly space your stakes to produce and well shaped basket.
