You can
plant trees from seeds that you get from your backyard but you may not get
exactly what you are expecting. Some trees need special treatment to produce
the same kind of tree, such as ornamental and fruit trees. Germination depends on the species and
environmental conditions. However,
trees have been growing forever without our help. It is important to mimic natures' way when planting from seed. Remember in nature when a seed falls to the
ground in the fall it is covered by leaves and over the winter remains wrapped
in this state. Then in the spring the
seeds begin to germinate having matured over the winter. Some seeds are unable to germinate unless
they go through this type of maturing.
Before
planting a tree there several things to consider, such as where does this tree
grow in nature, what type of environment does this tree require and what
conditions exist in your area. Things
like humidity, sunlight, rain, and temperature in your area are things to
consider before you decide on what kind of tree you want to plant. Underground conditions are also important
when planting a tree. Consider moisture,
fertility and anything that could prevent roots from growing. Also, take into account any legal restraints
and utility wires.
So now
you have decided what kind of tree you want to plant, the next thing is where
do you want to plant it. Consider the
size of what the mature tree will be and space your tree accordingly. If you are planting shade trees, the western
and southern exposures are natural places to consider but don’t
overlook the southeastern as it can sometimes get pretty warm in the mornings
and some shade on this side would be welcome.
